3.  Old Business

    a.  Ms. Ryan, MWR Director

        (1)  Proposal for a recreational space for enlisted sailors in Herrmann Hall.  Ms. Leone-Mullins conducted a survey with the help of the Command Senior Chiefs.  We got some great feedback from the Enlisted Sailors.  We’ll have a follow-on meeting with the Senior Chiefs to discuss the results.  Until then, there is a lot of discussion going on within the NAVPGSCOL about space allocation and location of functions, etc.  We originally talked about the Galleon Room as being a potential site for an enlisted recreational space, however, there are many different discussions going on right now for the overall plan of Herrmann Hall, which includes that space.  So we’re not sure if that will be a viable option for that use.  We do want to look at the BEQ to see if there are some things we can do to enhance what’s already over there in the lounge.

As a result of the survey, we are working with the Senior Chief to put a Christmas tree in the barracks lounge, and those kinds of things.  So we have already started doing things in order to make things better for our single sailors.

       (2)  Special one-time breakfast on Saturday.  We had forty participants for the Saturday breakfast.  That number of people does not cover our costs, so it’s strictly a service in that case.  We thought we’d get more international students--Mr. Tanner, DRMI, was very helpful in getting the word out, but the majority of people were those staying in the BOQ.

       (3)  Patron feedback about Sunday brunch.  We will be trying out a family style breakfast on two different dates:  Sunday, 19 November and Sunday, 10 December.  The breakfast will be in addition to our normal Sunday brunch and will be located in the Trident Room from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  It will be similar to our weekday morning breakfast, but we will also include coffee and juice, mini-croissants, and a couple of other things.  It will be a “one-trip” through the breakfast bar.  We are hoping that it will encourage and meet the needs of our families, especially those that attend chapel services.  The cost is $5.50.  We will provide the Chaplain’s Office with flyers so that they can pass them out to the parishioners.  After we have a couple of these breakfasts, we’ll make an assessment to see how much people want that type of breakfast and then we’ll go from there to determine what we’ll do.

       (4)  MWR Fund status.  We did not give you a fund status for this meeting, but we’ll try to get something for the next meeting.

       (5)  Interest in car wash on base.  Senior Chief O’Brien has been talking to us about what we can do to get some kind of car wash on base.  This will have to be discussed along with all the other long-range plans/discussions that are going on at NAVPGSCOL.  We can ensure that the long-range planning team are given this information.  We’ll have to put this in perspective with everything else that is being discussed.

       (6)  Outside groups using new Youth Center.  We have not yet developed a policy for outside groups using the new Youth Center, but we still plan to work on this.

    b.  Mr. Valleau, Golf Course/RV Campground Manager discussed the status of the bathroom for the 6th hole.  We are putting together a package to give to the MWR Director, which will include three different proposed facilities.

5.  Facilities Update, Ms. Ryan, MWR Director.  See enclosure (1).

    a.  The Youth Center Project is about 75% complete.  The contractor expects to turn the building over to us in mid-January. All specifications for the collateral equipment for that project are still being worked.  We should be opening up the Youth Center to our clientele by March 2001.

    b.  We are in the midst of our Gym MILCON Project.  Construction started on 2 October.  The ground breaking ceremony has not been scheduled yet.  We are trying to get Congressman Sam Farr, who was very instrumental in helping us get the funding for this project, to be involved in the ground breaking ceremony.

    c.  We are planning to have the Pre-Proposal Conference on 16 November for the Golf Course Complex Upgrade Project.

    d.  The Club Del Monte Renovation Phase I Project--we are still proceeding with the plans for the Trident Room.  There is a possibility that with some of the changes in Herrmann Hall, current plans for the MWR Catering Sales spaces and the lobby may be changed.  We may be moving some of the MWR functions around.

    e.  We have had a couple of consultants come in regarding the water storage at the golf course.  They are also looking at water storage on the entire base.  Once we get results from that, we’ll work with Public Works to redefine where we are headed with solutions for water at the golf course and then upgrading or putting in a whole new irrigation system.
