2.  The minutes of the last meeting held on 7 January 1999 were approved by the members.

3.  Old business:

    a.  Mr. Russ Gale, Leisure Services Manager, MWR (Acting):

   (1)  We are discussing details concerning fees and legal issues concerning the new bike rental program at the Fitness Center.  The program should be implemented by 1 April 1999.  We are working on a monthly rental fee for long term patrons.

    b.  Mr. Mike Valleau, Golf Course/RV Campground Manager, MWR:

        (1)  We are waiting for new bids to replace safety netting at the 13th fairway/jet center and playground/picnic area near the 11th hole.

        (2)  The restrooms at the picnic area and near the 16th green will be painted soon.

        (3)  MWR has checked on maintenance and repair funds to replace the Golf Course Club House bathroom fixtures.  Cost estimate for replacement is $8,000.  Since funding is currently not available, the replacement of the fixtures will wait until the Golf Course Complex Upgrade Renovation Project begins. 

       

        (4)  Ms. Ryan noted that the NPS Women’s Golf Association’s concerns about needing assistance to reorganize the Golf Association have been addressed and resolved.

4.  Recreation Update, Mr. Russ Gale, Leisure Services Manager, MWR (Acting):

    a.  Monterey Bay Athletic Club

       

·  St. Patrick’s Day 5K Run

When: 17 March; race starts at 5 p.m.

Pre-register at the Fitness Center front desk prior to 15 March.

Fee:  Active Duty/Reservists $8

      Retirees/Family Members $9

      DOD Civilians $10

Awards will be given for the top two finishers in each of the divisions and all participants will receive a commemorative long sleeve T-shirt.

·  6-Pack Attack Abdominal Workout.  Join us in the gymnasium as we take on a 15-minute “ABS ONLY” workout for all fitness levels.  Classes are on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 4:30 - 4:45 p.m.

The cost is free to authorized patrons.  No advanced sign-up is required.

    b.  Information, Tickets and Tours (ITT)

·  Great America opens on 20 March.  Tickets for individuals 7 years and older are $21.95, 3 – 6 years old are $17.95.

·  Dixieland Monterey Weekend, 5 - 7 March, badges are on sale now.  Friday or Sunday badges are $17, Saturday badges are $25 and a 3-day badge is $41.

·  San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics baseball tickets are available in the ITT Office.  Giants lower box tickets are $19, Athletics Plaza Infield are $7.50

    c.  Youth Activities

·  Youth Baseball Registration will be accepted beginning 1 - 19 March at the Youth Center in La Mesa Village, Monday – Friday, from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.  The cost is $30 per player.  Practices will begin the week of 5 April and the season will conclude 11 June.

·  Hip Hopping Spring Camp (Full Day), 15 - 26 March, registration is being taken now at the Youth Center for children 6 – 12 years of age.

 

·  Easter Egg Extravaganza will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 noon on Saturday, 3 April, in front of Herrmann Hall.   Times for the hunt are: 2 years and under, 10 a.m.; 3 – 5 years, 10:30 a.m.; 6 – 8 years, 11 a.m.; and 9 – 12 years, 11:30 a.m.  There will be games and activities going on continuously during the event.

   

5.  Child Development Program Update, Ms. Megan Ryan, Director, MWR:

    a.  Child Care available at Child Development Center (CDC) for NPS graduation, Thursday, 25 March, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Reservations are required and may be made by calling the CDC, 656-2734.  Cost is $3 per hour per child.

    b.  April is Month of the Military Child.  Many special events are being planned for this month honoring our very special children! 

·  PJ's and Pancakes, Saturday, 17 April, 9 - 11 a.m.  Child Development Program children are invited to join us at the Center with their PJ's on, and ready to flip some pancakes and then enjoy a very special music concert with MaryLee.

·  Month of the Military Child Parent Luncheons.  These will be scheduled throughout the month and will provide an opportunity for parents to join their children for a special lunch in their classroom.

    c.  Family Child Care (FCC).  There are currently four certified providers in the La Mesa Village housing area.  Two more are very close to being certified.  Parents may obtain a list of providers by stopping in at the CDC.

6.  Club Del Monte Update, Mr. Ken Taylor, Food and Beverage Manager, MWR.

    a.  Easter Brunch, Sunday, April 4.  We will have two seating times--10 a.m. will be the first seating with brunch served through 12 noon.  We will reset and open for the second seating at 1 p.m.  Reservations are strongly suggested.  Price will be $17.95 per person, children 5 - 10 years old $10.95, and under 5 years old are free.  Please see March Peacock Press for our Easter Brunch menu.

    b.  In the Trident Lounge

·     St. Patrick’s Day - Corned Beef and Cabbage will be our Wednesday night special on 17 March, from 4 - 9 p.m.  Price will be only $5 per plate.  Come in for dinner and green beer.  Don't be seen without wearing some green.

·     The Trident Lounge will be featuring Pork or Chicken Thai Curry from 4 - 9 p.m. on the remaining Wednesdays in March.  Price is $8.95 per plate.  Come by and check out our Chef's creations.

    c.  Friday Lunch Special for March will be Mongolian BBQ.  Only $4.95 per plate in the El Prado Dining Room, 10:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.

7.  Facilities Update, Ms. Megan Ryan, Director, MWR:

    a.  Phase II of Gym Renovation.  Awaiting A&E design for phase II of the gym renovation project.  This project will include renovation of the basketball court.

    b.  CDC Interior Renovation Project.  The interior renovation of the CDC is almost complete.

    c.  CDC Playground Renovation Project.  The old playground equipment will be removed and replaced with age appropriate equipment and new playground safety surface.

    d.  New Youth Center Construction Project.  We are currently in process of developing the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the new Youth Center.  A subsequent project will construct a multi-purpose playing field adjacent to the new Youth Center.

    e.  Softball Field.  The command is currently upgrading the drainage system and making repairs to the softball field next to Lake Del Monte.  This project should be completed by 4 July 1999.

    f.  Tennis Court Resurfacing.  We have completed resurfacing the tennis courts next to Lake Del Monte.  We will begin resurfacing the tennis courts next to the Arizona Gardens after the weather becomes drier.

    g.  Golf Course Complex Upgrade Project.  A Project Validation Assessment (PVA) was done in November for the Golf Course Complex Upgrade Project.  This project will relocate the Pro-Shop, upgrade the Pro-Shop, Snack Bar and Clubhouse, construct new restrooms by the 6th tee and construct a new cart barn to house a new electric cart fleet.  Naval Military Personnel Command is currently reviewing the PVA for NAF funding consideration.

    h.  Golf Course Well Project.  MWR is currently working with Public Works Engineering to address the water shortage issue at the golf course, including well testing and development, chemical cleaning of existing wells, increasing water storage and importing water from Lake Del Monte.

8.  New business:

    a.  Mr. Mike Valleau, Golf Course/RV Campground Manager, MWR, announced the upcoming Little Masters Golf Tournament, 9 - 11 April at Monterey Pines Golf Course.  Tee times will start at 7:30 a.m. each day.  Tournament fee is $30 per player and does not include greens fees or cart rental.  For more information call the Pro Shop, 656-2167.

    b.  DT1(SW) Marcus Akkerman, Branch Dental Clinic, NPS, asked if all Fitness Center employees are CPR certified.

        RESPONSE:  Mr. Russ Gale explained that most of the personnel are CPR certified.  All personnel, including custodial workers, will be certified by 30 March 1999.

9.  Meeting adjourned at 11:10 a.m.  Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 6 May 1999, at 1000 in the La Novia Room, Herrmann Hall, NAVPGSCOL.  NAVPGSCOL, NAVSUPPACT MB and tenant commands are encouraged to send a representative.
