3.  Old Business.

    a.  Mr. Russ Gale:  Regarding the painting of restroom at the golf course, Public Works went through and abated the lead paint chips off the building.  This was completed last week.  We will be out there today painting and should have the work completed by tomorrow.  The colors are to match the little storage shed that’s in the back of the picnic area and also the buildings up at the RV Campground (light brown, beige, and the forest green).

    b.  Ms. Bizzozero asked about carpeting at the golf course.

Ms. Leone-Mullins responded:  We have submitted a purchase order for the installation of the carpet and now we are just waiting for the company to do the installation.

    c.  Ms. Leone-Mullins:  For several months we’ve been talking about the netting along the 13th fairway and up on the playground.  We have a meeting with the Airport District next week to talk about that, so the outcome of that meeting should hopefully get us moving on purchasing and installing the netting.

    c.  Child Development Program, Ms. Beth Leone-Mullins, Leisure Service Manager.

        (1)  April is “Month of the Military Child”.  Several events have been planned to celebrate our children.

             (a)  Saturday - 1 April 2000 - THE THIRD ANNUAL PJ'S AND PANCAKES will take place at the Child Development Center from 9:00-11:00 a.m.  Children and parents that attend the center are invited to put on their pajamas and join us to make pancakes and enjoy some special activities planned by the staff.  We'll also enjoy a visit from Mary Lee, who will bring her guitar and provide us with some rocking good singing and fun!  Grandpa Sparky and his clown friends will also be on hand to add to the fun!  It's free---we just need to see those pajamas, some appetites and folks ready for some FUN!

           (b)  Parents will be invited to attend a special luncheon with their child at the Child Development Center (some of our older groups will gather at Gazebo Park across from the Center).  Our luncheons will take place throughout the month of April and parents will receive a personal invitation for their class day.

        (2)  Our NAEYC Accreditation process is in full swing.  Our staff are very busy evaluating their classrooms and ensuring our program meets the accreditation criteria outlined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.  Parents have been involved as well, and their input has been most valuable.  It looks like our actual validation visit should take place sometime in late May.  We're looking forward to this visit and we're confident we will shine!

        (3)  Our Parent Advisory Board met 10 February 2000 and new officers were elected.  They are:

President:    Allison Hernandez

Vice President:    Roman Benitez

Secretary:  Tina Mangles

Parent participation is vital to the success of our program and we truly appreciate their input!

             (4)  Playground Renovation Project Update.  At the last MWR Advisory Board Meeting we reported our project as being at approximately 95% complete!  We're now at about 97% complete---so we're seeing progress.  There was a little set back last week when one of the sprinkler lines burst and a portion of the rubber safety surface had to be pulled up in order to accommodate the repair.  The line has been fixed and new safety surface has been installed. The remainder of items should be completed by 1 May 2000.

        (5)  Our two certified Family Child Care (FCC) providers continue to support families by offering hourly care, part-time care and full-time care.  Feedback from our families is they are pleased to have this option and we've been able to accommodate many families via our FCC providers.  We are always looking for new providers to join our program, so if you know of anyone living in La Mesa Housing that may be interested, please have them call 656-2734 and we'd be happy to discuss the program with them.

5.  Facilities Update, Ms. Beth Leone-Mullins, Leisure Services Manager.

    a.  Youth Center NAFCON.  Last week we reviewed and submitted comments on the 50% design package.  Construction should begin sometime in March.

    d.  Club renovation project continues on track.

6.  New business.

    a.  Ms. Bizzozero, Monterey Pines Golf Association.

        (1)  Is there any chance of getting a new toilet in the ladies room?

Ms. Leone-Mullins responded:  We can check with Public Works and look into that.

        (2)  What is the status of the Assistant Manager position for the Golf Course?

Ms. Leone-Mullins responded:  We advertised in the PGA Job Bulletin, and just last week received two applicants from that job bulletin.  We are reviewing their resumes right now and will be setting up some interviews.

Ms. Leone-Mullins responded:  Next weekend, 10 - 12 March, MWR is taking 15 single sailors to South Lake Tahoe skiing.  We’re starting to program different kinds of activities, including camping.  We have a Single Sailor Coordinator coming on board 13 March 2000, who will be able to dedicate more time to the Single Sailor Program.

On Friday, 14 March, from 1130 - 1300, MWR is hosting a free lunch for single sailors in the La Novia Room (this is for GEO’s also).  We will have lunch as well as have games, giveaways, etc.  If you have any suggestions about single sailor activities, please e-mail me at bleone-mullins@nps.navy.mil.

CWO4 Walsh asked:  I sent you a proposal last week.  It will be difficult for us to support the Friday scramble you have planned.

    d.  CECS Mroz, NPS Command Senior Chief asked about the Fun Run for St. Patrick’s Day.

Mr. Gale responded:  You will be getting a request for help.

    e.  Ms. Bizzozero, Monterey Pines Golf Association asked:  Is the Scramble open to military and civilians?

Ms. Leone-Mullins responded:  I don’t believe its public civilians; its DOD civilians.

    f.  Mr. Rowley, TROA.  This weekend is Dixie Land Monterey, 20th Anniversary event.  They will have quite a few youth bands.  It will be in downtown Monterey at the Conference Center.  This is a fun event and is family oriented.

Ms. Bizzozero added:  San Carlos Church has two Dixie Land Masses on Saturday.  You don’t have to be Catholic to go.

    g.  Ms. Leone-Mullins, Leisure Services Manager.  Monday is the start of Youth Baseball registration at the Youth Center for children ages 4 - 12 years.

7.  With no other items from the members, Ms. Leone-Mullins thanked everyone for taking the time to attend and adjourned the meeting at 1035.  The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 3 May 2000, 1000, in the La Novia Room, Herrmann Hall, NAVPGSCOL.  NAVPGSCOL and tenant commands are invited to send a representative.
