    b.  Golf Course/RV Campground, Mr. Thompson, Assistant Golf Course/RV Campground Manager

       (1) We have completed the Technical Review of the Golf Course Clubhouse Renovation plans and hope to award the contract soon.

Ms. Ryan noted.  It should be awarded within the next couple weeks.

       (2) We will reverse the front and back tees at the golf course on 9 April.  That means that the front nine holes will become the back nine and vice-versa.  It will be done at this time even though the new green isn't ready in order to change the traffic flow of the golf course thereby encouraging patrons to stop by the clubhouse because the #18 hole will bring them closer.

Megan noted.  When you’re coming off the #9, the clubhouse area will be the midway point and that is where the restrooms are located.  We had talked at one time about putting a restroom, with the current configuration, out by the 6th hole, and we were not able to get that approved.  So what they did in planning this new complex was having it so that if you switched the 9’s, the midway point is at the clubhouse, thereby you are able to use the restrooms, stop by snack bar, and then continue to play the rest of the #9.  It will help the flow of the golf course to do this.

       (3) We will be building a practice green with bunkers on the western side of the new range ball building and we are still shooting for a Grand Opening in April.

       (4) We will be erecting a thirty-foot fence on the airport side of the 13th hole to protect the Jet Center from golf balls.

       (5) We will be aerating greens, Tee boxes, and fairways and putting down spring seed in preparation for the new golf season at the end of March/beginning of April.

Mr. Rowley commented.  Looking ahead to the dry season and the different water sources for watering, are you still using Del Monte Lake and is that working O.K.?

Ms. Ryan responded.  Yes, it is working O.K. and the base has recently completed a study to take a look at the whole irrigation needs of both the golf course and FNMOC.  We are going to have a meeting in the next week or so to review that study and it’s options, and then develop our strategy so that we can put together a project to most likely build a reservoir so we have more holding capacity and install an irrigation system.

We will be putting a liner in Charlie Lake and then let it fill back up with water.  We were losing about 100 thousand gallons of water a day because it was going back into the aquifer.  By having a liner in the lake, we can retain more of the water for irrigation.

Mr. Rowley asked.  I am on the City’s Neighborhood Improvement Program Committee and there is a project to improve Del Monte Lake area.  Will you still be able to take water from there?  I know that the City has very strict requirements on how they treat the water from Lake El Estero when used for landscaping, etc.  Will there be any change in how the water must be treated before it’s used on the golf course?

Ms. Ryan responded.  They know that we will continue to use Del Monte Lake for watering of the golf course; that will be in the agreement.

Mr. Rowley asked.  Do they still use it (water) for watering the grounds on base?

Ms. Ryan responded.  Yes, and they will continue to do that as well.

Mr. Pineiro asked.  There is a tall fence that needs repair at the #13, where the new camping area is located.  Do you have a warranty on the fence?  It has been there for several years.  Can you see how long that fence is supposed to last?

Ms. Ryan responded.  We have done some repairs to the fence ourselves.  Thank you, we will look into that.

Mr. Pineiro commented.  There have been numerous complaints about changing to the back #9.  Many of the players have experienced the back #9.  It used to be the first Tee.  It didn’t work out well because it slowed down the play tremendously.  The back #9 is a little hilly which makes it a little more difficult than the front #9, the front #9 is flat.

I can understand the benefits business-wise, but that is yet to be seen whether it is going to work out or not.  I’m more concerned about the other players than for myself, it has been brought up a lot.
