Tenure Track Positions

The Graduate School of Business and Public Policy (GSBPP) at the Naval Postgraduate School (www.nps.edu) offers MBA and M.S. degrees to students from the military services, federal civilian employees, and officers from allied nations. GSBPP invites applications for several tenure track faculty positions at all ranks. Preference will be given to candidates displaying documented excellence in teaching and research. Faculty members are expected to teach graduate-level courses, serve as an advisor for MBA applications projects, and conduct quality scholarly research. Interest and ability to conduct field research and establish working relationships with senior government officials are necessary. Financial support for one or more academic quarters to conduct research is available. Candidates should possess a Ph.D./DBA, or be near completion. Candidates with a masters-level education may be considered for Lecturer positions in some areas. The level of faculty appointment and compensation will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the candidate. All successful applicants will be required to provide copies of official transcripts prior to hiring.
NPS is located on the coast in Monterey, CA, about 140 miles south of San Francisco. The Graduate School of Business and Public Policy is a research oriented school of management, with over 60 full-time faculty members and over 300 full-time graduate students. The school’s graduate degrees are accredited by AACSB, NASPAA, or both. Openings include:
Accounting and Finance: We seek applicants for tenure-track faculty positions at all ranks in Accounting. Candidates must possess good research and teaching skills, a doctoral degree in accounting or finance (completed or close to completion), and evidence of a strong commitment to MBA teaching and research. Candidates with teaching and research interests in Finance are encouraged to apply. In addition to MBA core courses in finance, faculty teach advanced courses in financial reporting and analysis, management control, auditing, business finance, and strategic cost management. Applicants with a master’s level education may be considered for a Lecturer position.
Acquisition (Program and Contract Management): Preference will be given to candidates with a record of teaching and scholarly research in project management, purchasing, contract management, software acquisition, or other disciplines relevant to the acquisition of military equipment, products and services. Experience in or knowledge of the Federal acquisition system is desirable. Candidates in related areas (management, business, public administration) with a solid record of teaching and scholarly research and who are interested in developing a research program in acquisition are also encouraged to apply.
Operations and Logistics Management and related fields: Preference will be given to candidates displaying documented excellence in teaching and research, as well as an interest in teaching operations management, decision science and/or supply chain management. Applicants should hold or be near receipt of a Ph.D. or DBA degree in operations management, operations research, industrial engineering, supply chain management, or a related field. We are also interested in hiring Lecturers who possess in-depth knowledge and experience in military logistics. We will consider visiting faculty for a defined term.
Public Budgeting and Finance: Rank is open, but candidates at the advanced associate or full level are encouraged to apply. The primary area of teaching specialization is public budgeting and finance. It is expected that the candidate will develop a strong specialization in defense budgeting in both teaching and research. Preferred areas for teaching and research include national defense budgeting, defense financial management, and national defense and congressional budget process behavior and dynamics. Research in other areas of public budgeting and finance also is encouraged, including work on international government finance and reform. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and research and, for junior faculty, the potential for developing a record of outstanding research and classroom teaching. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed their PhD and have university teaching experience, a record of publications, and public sector work experience.
Organizational Behavior/Strategy/Business Communications: The Graduate School of Business and Public Policy at the Naval Postgraduate School seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in Organizational Behavior/Strategy/Business Communications. Rank is open but candidates must possess a Ph.D, or be near completion. The ideal candidate has an established research and publication record, is recognized for excellence in the classroom, and has a commitment to service in the public sector.
Economics: GSBPP seeks applicants for a full-time tenure track position; rank is open. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching graduate economics courses that support the MBA program and the M.S. in the Manpower Program. Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. in Economics, have a strong quantitative background, and an interest in policy-oriented research. Interest in Defense Economics, Microeconomics, Econometrics, and/or Labor Economics is desirable.
