| Message from the Dean | ||
GSBPP is a unique academic institution with strong ties to business management and public policy. Current graduate students include US and allied military officers and defense sector civilians from all service branches. After graduating from GSBPP, alum fill jobs managing the business of defense, setting defense policy, and providing defense sector administration. We prepare our students through a variety of resident and distributed learning programs in several different graduate degree programs. All of our instructional programs are designed with a strong national security orientation and strike a delicate balance between business management and public policy/public administration. Complementing our educational mission, GSBPP maintains a robust scholarship program. Scholarship supports graduate education by informing faculty members about recent developments in their academic fields (maintaining their currency), as well as recent defense and national security sector applications. GSBPP students are integrated into our research through their class work and, more particularly, their capstone thesis or project research. GSBPP’s scholarship mission synergistically advances our academic disciplines and national security sector practice, supports faculty development, and enhances graduate student education. In a speech on 8 May 2010 at the Eisenhower Library, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates outlined a management challenge for the DoD in FY 2012. “…as the Defense Department begins the process of preparing next year’s Fiscal Year 2012 budget request …The goal is to cut our overhead costs and to transfer those savings to force structure and modernization within the programmed budget. In other words, to convert sufficient “tail” to “tooth” to provide the equivalent of roughly two to three percent real growth …. Simply taking a few percent off the top of everything on a one-time basis will not do.” The Graduate School of Business & Public Policy is uniquely positioned to help improve defense business practices and administration, as demanded by Secretary Gates. Our scholarship informs current decision makers and improves management procedures and policies. Our instruction prepares the next generation of defense sector leaders to analyze and think critically so that they can effectively manage organizations, resources, people, and programs in complex, sometimes life-threatening environments. We are proud of our contribution to the US and allied defense sectors and US national security. Please let us know how we can be of assistance. Sincerely, | ||
