Biography
Jeffrey W. Knopf is an Associate Professor in the Department of National Security Affairs, where he also serves as Academic Associate for Secutiry
Studies. He has taught at the Naval Postgraduate School since Fall 2000. Dr. Knopf received a Ph.D. in Political Science from Stanford University (1991) as well as an M.A. from Stanford and a B.A. from Harvard University. Before joining NPS, Dr. Knopf was a Senior Research Associate at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (1998-2000) and an Assistant Professor of International Relations at the University of Southern California (1991-1998). Dr. Knopf was also the Editor of The Nonproliferation Review from 1998-2000. In the mid-1980s, he worked in Washington, D.C., as a research analyst at the Investor Responsibility Research Center and the Defense Budget Project.
Dr. Knopf is the author of Domestic Society and International Cooperation: The Impact of Protest on U.S. Arms Control Policy (Cambridge University Press, 1998) and the co-author of U.S. Arms Exports: Policies and Contractors (Ballinger Publishing Co., 1988). He has also published articles in International Organization, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Peace Research, Security Studies, Review of International Studies, and various edited books. His teaching and research interests include nuclear arms control and non-proliferation, the relationship between public opinion and foreign policy, and international relations theory. Dr. Knopf's current research focuses on the role of deterrence after September 11.
