telesonar

Telesonar

Telesonar is undersea acoustic signaling between autonomous devices in littoral environments at ranges up to 10 km providing reliable 1-10,000 bit/s bidirectional links with transmission security using minimal battery energy enabling low-cost ($1k/modem) networks for distributed undersea C4ISR

seismo aucustic sonar

Seismo-Acoustic Sonar

Elliptical motion source composed of two orthogonal electromagnetic shakers. By use of an elliptical motion source, one can selectively excite the desired seimo-acoustic interface wave for mine detection.

Parametric Excitation of Sound

Established feasibility of attaining high amplitudes of sound for possible use in thermoacoustic refrigerators, acoustic compressors, acoustic pumps, and intense underwater sources of sound. Thesis: P. Varnadore (June, 2001).

floating

Sinking a Floating Body with Bubbles

Predicted and measured the density of bubbles required to sink a floating body. Applications include sinking of ships with methane mined from ocean floor. Theses: L. Pringle (June, 2000) and C. DeGrace (December, 2000).

aucmodeling

Underwater Acoustic Propagation Modeling

Applications to active reverberation, passive transient localization, acoustic communications, and general sonar performance predictions.
