Welcome to the homepage for the Free Electron Laser Program

At the Naval postgraduate school we focus on teaching, research, and modeling of Free Electron Lasers (FEL) in support of NAVSEA PMS 405. To date we have graduated 60 Masters students, and four PHD students. The FEL group focuses on pioneering the physics of free electron lasers with an emphasis on its primary functional parts. With research developed by Professor William Colson we can simulate many aspects and configurations of FEL systems and determine the optimal configuration for design and implementation. The FEL group is uniquely capable of performing modeling and simulation from basic FEL physics to systems design. Finally we are in collaboration with Stanford, NRL, LANL, AES, LBNL, Jefferson Lab, University of Maryland, and University.
