The Department of Physics at the Naval Postgraduate School seeks highly qualified applicants for Research Assistant positions associated with graduate studies at the Masters and Doctoral (preferred) level to support departmental research programs. Candidates must have a strong scholastic record at the undergraduate and/or graduate level and have demonstrated interest in research. Salaries or stipends in the range of $30,000 to $40,000 along with benefits are typical. The Department currently has 14 tenure-track faculty and 9 adjunct faculty conducting funded research (~$7 M/y funding levels) in the areas of acoustics, optoelectronics, sonar, radar, advanced semiconductor sensors, remote sensing, physics of networks, directed-energy weapons (free-electron lasers, kinetic and chemical energy penetrators), autonomous robotics, launch dynamics (rail gun acceleration), explosive detonation physics, and dynamic materials properties.
