Pre or Co-requisite: IDS5717C OR EIN5255 OR EIN5117 OR ESI 5531.

 

Goals:

·       Introduction to significant topics relative to System Life Cycle Engineering

·       Impart a Management level understanding of the use of simulation for knowledge transfer in the organizational environment.

·       Identify Competitive and Strategic advantages of the use of simulation by corporations

·       Understand, apply, and demonstrate how industry concepts of Simulation-Based Life Cycle Engineering are integrated into selected phases of the program life cycle to actually create benefit through educational mastery of extensive case study history from the commercial aviation and/or automotive industries.

·       Understand, apply, and demonstrate how industry concepts of Simulation-Based Life Cycle Engineering face challenges to reducing the time, resources, and risks through mastery of extensive case study history from the commercial pharmaceutical industry, innovation techniques, information technology, forecasting techniques, and change management case history

 

Minimum Required Course Material:

o      Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc HBS Case Study

o      Forecasting HBS Case Study

o      Industry Transformation HBS Case Study

o      Volkswagen HBS Case Study

Individual Systems Engineering Quiz (150 points)

 

Individual Simulation, Strategy, Competitiveness, and Information Quiz (150 points)

 

Individual Aircraft Industry Strategic Competitiveness Quiz   (150 points)

 

Individual Paper: Simulation-based Life Cycle Engineering Benefits and Challenges for one company in a given Industry Sector (350 points)

 

Team Presentation:  Benefits and Challenges of Simulation-based Life Cycle Engineering observed across a given Industry Sector (200 points)

 

Assignments will be submit on the date and before the time specified in the class schedule below.  Grades will be assigned as indicated below according to the weighted score obtained by the student.  One grade will be given for Team assignments and all members of the team will receive the same grade.  Teams may be dissolved as late as one week before each assignment.  If a team dissolves, then it is the responsibility of each individual of the dissolved team to complete the assignment individually.

 


Grading:

A: 930 to 1000 points

A-: 900 to 929 points

B+: 850 to 899 points

B: 800 to 849 points

B-: 750 to 799 points

C: 700 to 749 points

C-: 650 to 699 points

F: 649 and below
