GSBPP Research

To conduct research that supports military decision-making, problem solving, and policy setting, improves administrative processes and organizational effectiveness, contributes knowledge to academic disciplines, and advances the mission of graduate education.

Objectives

The Graduate School of Business & Public Policy (GSBPP) Research program is designed to strengthen Defense capabilities through exploratory and applied research by focusing on seven principal objectives.

  • Increase the quality and quantity of relevant defense-oriented research.

  • Catalyze a broad and robust research program.

  • Involve top researchers, practitioners and graduate students in defense-oriented research useful to DoD policy/decision making processes.

  • Augment and complement cooperative interdisciplinary research activities.

  • Disseminate relevant, important results to researchers, sponsors, policy makers and practitioners.

  • Integrate defense-oriented research with education, DoD workforce training and standardize policy practices.

  • Establish and maintain a community of academic and professional scholars engaged in exploratory and applied research to address complicated defense issues from a number of perspectives, while integrating defense applications into familiar business disciplines.

GSBPP Faculty

The faculty is drawn from a wide variety of academic disciplines in business and public sector management. The school's diverse, multidisciplinary character is reflected in the breadth and depth of defense expertise and is unlike any in the country. Engaging in exploratory and applied research across disciplines, GSBPP can address complicated defense issues from a number of perspectives, while integrating defense applications into familiar business disciplines.

Research Chairs

Through the combined efforts of research chairs such as the Conrad Chair, GSBPP is positioned to establish and maintain effective links between sponsors, researchers and practitioners who focus on current defense-oriented research and issues.

Operating within disciplines, faculty research has historically addressed interest areas of the Departments of Defense and Navy in five functional areas. Detailed information can we found at the links below.

Making a Difference

Faculty and student research concentrates on creative problem solving for defense related topics and provides a continued source of analytical capability for the Navy and the Department of Defense. Through effective bridging between academic research, policy and practice; GSBPP faculty are uniquely positioned as a team to steer defense research toward practical needs as well as anticipate future issues that require research to resolve. GSBPP values the continued support and feedback of research sponsors.
