Executive MBA Program - Blackboard and Python Information

Blackboard Blackboard

The Naval Postgraduate School uses the Blackboard Learning Support System Version 6. Blackboard is a software system that enables instructors to develop their courses in an organized password protected environment. In this learning support system you can view varied course content and use the asynchronous and synchronous communication tools for collaborative work.

To Log into Blackboard

  • Go to http://nps.blackboard.com/
  • Click on LOGIN
  • The Blackboard Username and Password will be sent to the NPS email account assigned to you.
  • Blackboard Username = same as NPS Username - everything before @nps.edu
  • Blackboard Password is NOT related to your NPS account password and can either be different or the same, whichever is easiest for you to remember.

[See Blackboard Student Manual at http://www.nps.edu/Technology/Blackboard/]
The NPS Technology Assistance Center (TAC) is your first and foremost support resource for computer assistance at NPS.  Contact the TAC at 831-656-1046 or send an email to TAC@nps.edu with your request.

PYTHON PYTHON

This is the Educational Management System NPS uses to register students and courses.

* You will use PYTHON to view grades, submit Student Opinion Forms (SOF) after each course (required); update personal information (e.g., changes in rank, address changes, how you want your name on your diploma, etc…); print unofficial transcripts.

To log into Python

If you are using NMCI machine it will most likely give you an I/O error. You will have to use your home computer, office or other where you can let the program to install the citrix client.

PYTHON Remote Access (Citrix Required)
Off-campus access to PYTHON for all NPS users is now available for home or remote users.

Start the PYTHON Application (IE browsers only)
Start the PYTHON Application (All web browsers)

You will first be asked to login to the server. Once this is done, you will see the Python Welcome Page. Click PYTHON USER LOGIN, and then enter your username and password again.  (Please ignore pop up message for now).

(Please be patient specially if you have slower dial up connection, it might take a few moments to bring the remote application up on your screen)

The username and password are the same as the NPS account.

Notes and updates on the remote python application.

  1. If you are using NMCI machine it will most likely give you an I/O error.
  2. If you are using a public computer say in a hotel, you might have difficulty because the remote application has to be installed automatically.

(This application is trying to set a secure connection to the NPS computer system so public computers might not the best choice. )

In the 2 cases above: You will have to use your home computer, office or other where you can let the program to install the citrix client.

If you have any problems with Citrix log-in, call the Technology Assistant Center here at NPS:
831-656-1046 (they have more people stand by on the phones).
