Admissions Criteria

To be considered for the NPS EMBA program, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Senior Lieutenant through Commander. The EMBA target group is Lieutenant Commander and above.
  • Department Head tour completed or middle-level management experience (Division Officer experience may qualify)
  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.6 or above (on a four-point scale).
  • Stationed at the EMBA cohort location for the entire 24 months of the program

In addition, your command must positively endorse your application for the EMBA participation and certify that you are competitive for promotion to the next higher rank. Some exceptions to the above criteria may be made for applicants who have strong command recommendations.

Application Process

To apply for admission to the EMBA program, you need to take the following steps:
  1. Contact your BUPERS detailer to make certain you will be stationed at the EMBA cohort location for the entire 24-month program.

  2. Complete the Applicant Letter (sample letter provided) and fax to the number listed below.

  3. Secure a letter of EMBA enrollment support from your Commanding Officer. As mentioned earlier, the program requires one day of release time per week to attend classes. A sample letter of support is provided. Please fax to the number listed below.
    * Lodging has been reserved at the Navy Lodge in Monterey. Current rate is $73.00/night.

  4. Complete the EMBA application at the following URL:
    https://www.nps.edu/Admissions/AMS/Login.aspx

  5. Send your undergraduate transcripts and any transcripts of graduate work you have already completed to the EMBA office via e-mail or FAX. E-mail: emba@nps.edu. FAX: 831-656-3630.
