"Military Standoff in South Asia: U.S. Policy Imperatives"
The CCC on February 4 held a panel discussion on the current military standoff between India and Pakistan. The panel was composed of CCC Directory Peter Lavoy, CCC Research Fellow Surinder Rana, Glynn Wood, Professor of South Asian Studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS), and Tariq Rauf, Director International Organizations and Nonproliferation Program (IONP) at the Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS). The panelists addressed the current India-Pakistan crisis from their respective country perspectives, the impact of the South Asian situation on the U.S.-led war against terrorism, and the prospects for constructive U.S. policy in South Asia. There was a consensus view among the panelists that long-term U.S. engagement in South Asia is critical to regional stability.
