The motivation for this workshop was to gather a set of good thinkers on topics important to understanding the changing (and increasing) role of China in the future security environment. Several dozen military officers, academics, and industry partners attended the workshop, which brought together innovative thinkers from across government and academia to consider the implication of China’s rise. Workshop participants were engaged in discussions ranging from new conceptions of China’s growing power; the importance of understanding Chinese culture (as not just our theories of strategic culture); the changing role of alliances; and the interrelations between economics, economies, and security.
