Event Type: Course
Summary: This course is the result of a collaborative effort between the PSOTC and the U.S. Nava Postgraduate School (NPS). Both institutions are the designated NATO Partnership Training and Education Centers (PTCs) for their respective countries—the Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) PTC and the USPTC. For more than two years, the two institutions have been engaged in the development of this new curriculum, with critical subject matter input from a wide variety of experts, including representatives from the Armed Forces of BiH, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Security, NATO, the United Nations, EUFOR, and civil society, including academic and nongovernmental organizations.
This course aims to increase awareness and provide a conceptual understanding of gender issues in the security sector. It has a particular focus on Peace Support Operations (PSO) and how successful missions need to communicate with women in the society they are tasked to protect and thus how it is essential that female soldiers, police officers, and civilian staff are involved in the planning and conduct of operations.
Date: May 7 - 11, 2012
Location: Peace Support Operations Training Center, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
